Clement Price Thomas is a British artist (b.1971) who lives & works in New York City.
Born into a family of surgeons, this environment fostered an awareness of the finite
limitations of human existence and the ability of people to affect and extend life. Using an ever-increasing variety of materials, his work explores the natural processes of being alive and our perception of it.
The expression of transience, brevity, growth, life and change is continuously investigated. The materials he uses include water, metals, salt, mould, bones, blood, concrete, insects, plants, explosives, motors and electricity. This can be seen as the logical evolution of a naturalistic current that was promoted by Darwin in the mid 19th century.
In 2004 Clement moved to New York City where his experimentation's have resulted in an ongoing series of works, that use the full scope of the island of Manhattan, as the body from which his works are drawn from and exist within. These public projects, while poetic and ambitious, aim to establish a correspondence between the viewer and the larger universe.
