STICK 2007

A birch stick that has fungal growth living on top of its bark is screwed to a plywood base. The base sits within a baking tray containing a super saturated salt solution. As the water evaporates from the tray the salt solution dries out and crystalizes. Once fully dry the viewer is asked to refill the tray with tap water. This dissolves the salt back into a solution and once again lets the solution seep back into the bottom of the stick. Over time the process is repeated indefinitely until the stick rots through and, not being able to hold itself vertical, falls from its base support.
