SERPENTINE PROJECT 2005/1993
A multitude of circular forms are drawn on water, using compressed air, fed from under the surface.
This artwork is a huge drawing of landscape scale. It exists on the surface water of a lake and river in London. Multitudes of circles continuously appear and disappear in patterns choreographed by the combined poetic activity of air, water, wind and light. The drawing will alter radically depending on the weather conditions of any particular day. It can change from being invisible to standing out and then disappearing. Colossal in size, it can be viewed in part from the sides of the lake or seen as a whole from the air and surrounding buildings in the Park. This work provokes discussion on man's attempt to compete with mother natures' inherent beauty.
